We apologize for any concern. When a card is used at the pump of any gas station, the merchant requests for the card issuer to let them know that the card is legitimate. At our stations, the way the card issuer confirms this for us is by approving the customer to collect up to a certain amount. Some card issuers approve $100 or more, but if there is not $100 available on the account, the card issuer usually approves up to the amount available. Once pumped, the purchase amount is collected by the merchant and pends to replace the amount the card issuer approved the card for. Most often this process occurs immediately, but some card issuers take longer to process the actual fuel payment, which can take 1-3 days or longer. That all really depends on the bank that issues the card. To avoid a large preauthorization in the future, feel free to prepay the attendant. That way, the approved amount will be the amount you choose instead of the predetermined amount by your card issuer.
